The Alamo City is thirsty for more sporting events, and the NCAA is giving us a tall drink of announcements.

The NCAA unveiled that San Antonio will be the site of two future tournaments: the 2026 NCAA DI Women’s Volleyball Championship and the 2027 NCAA DI Men’s Basketball Regional.

So how was the Countdown City chosen?

Trusting the process

The NCAA received 1,200+ bids from member schools, conferences, cities, and sports commissions across 47 states and Washington, D.C., all competing to host rounds for 87 of the NCAA’s 90 championships.

Fun fact: San Antonio previously hosted two NCAA volleyball championships (2005 and 2011) and 11 men’s basketball regionals.

The announcement

The Alamo City has a strong history of hosting successful NCAA Championships, generating hundreds of millions of dollars for the city’s economy.

Here’s where you can catch all the action:
  • The women’s volleyball championship will be held in the Alamodome in 2026.
  • The men’s basketball regional (part of the March Madness tournament) will take place at the Frost Bank Center in 2027.

Leave the kiddos at home for this foodie adventure. Steak and seafood fans alike will flock to this downtown oasis. Located on the first floor of the newly opened Kimpton Santo Hotel lies a quiet, luxurious restaurant known as Dean’s Steak and Seafood.

What to try

Do you study the menu before trying out a new spot? We can’t be the only ones. As per usual at a steak house, there’s a lot of meat options on the dinner menu. With guidance from staff member Grace, here’s what we recommend trying:

A5 Hot Stone Wagyu | Served with a hot stone, thins slices of wagyu, a chimichurri sauce, and pickled cucumbers.

Baked Mac & Cheese | This shareable side comes with plump noodles, Chihuahua + cheddar cheeses, and topped with bread crumbs. Pro tip: Add the lobster to elevate your experience.

The Classic | Cut into a 8oz filet covered in king crab, with asparagus and a truffle béarnaise.

Fun fact: I was at the 2005 championship tournament in the Alamodome.
