The Alamo City is thirsty for more sporting events, and the NCAA is giving us a tall drink of announcements.

The NCAA unveiled that San Antonio will be the site of two future tournaments: the 2026 NCAA DI Women’s Volleyball Championship and the 2027 NCAA DI Men’s Basketball Regional.

So how was the Countdown City chosen?

Trusting the process

The NCAA received 1,200+ bids from member schools, conferences, cities, and sports commissions across 47 states and Washington, D.C., all competing to host rounds for 87 of the NCAA’s 90 championships.

Fun fact: San Antonio previously hosted two NCAA volleyball championships (2005 and 2011) and 11 men’s basketball regionals.

The announcement

The Alamo City has a strong history of hosting successful NCAA Championships, generating hundreds of millions of dollars for the city’s economy.

Here’s where you can catch all the action:

  • The women’s volleyball championship will be held in the Alamodome in 2026.
  • The men’s basketball regional (part of the March Madness tournament) will take place at the Frost Bank Center in 2027.
