With San Antonio constantly growing and undertaking multiple high-profile developments this year, we figured it was time to talk about the cost of planting some roots in the Alamo City.
The median household income in Bexar County is $58,288 according to the US Census Bureau. State-wide, Texas ranks No. 21 in the country for median income at ~$63,826 per household.
The overall cost of living in San Antonio is lower than the national average, and lower than the rest of the state.
In San Antonio, the cost of healthcare is lower compared to other parts of the state + the US. And the cost of groceries, housing, transportation, and other miscellaneous expenses in the city have lower average costs than other cities in Texas and the country overall.

Hypothetically speaking, if you live in a household that brings in $50,000 annually â according to experts â you shouldnât spend more than 30% of your monthly gross income on rent. Donât worry, we did the math for you â your max monthly rent budget would be $1,250. The average monthly rent for an apartment in San Antonio is $1,281 â putting you over budget.
According to a recent study by Attom Data Solutions, itâs actually more affordable to buy a home in Bexar County than to rent.

The cost of living is 12% higherin Austin.
To maintain our standard of living, we would need to bring in $55,918 to our ATX household.
The median cost for a two-bedroom apartment is $1,520, which is $244 more than San Antonio.
SATX also has entities such as the San Antonio Housing Authority + other government-funded programs to help develop more affordable units.
There are also a number of local development firms working on apartments seemingly all the time â from Overland Partners involved in landmark developments to Weston Urbanâs 32-story, downtown residential tower.

The much-anticipated hotel at Hemisfair has been officially cleared by the Historic and Design Review Commission. Planned for the site at 222 S. Alamo St. is a 17-story, 200-room boutique hotel overlooking the ongoing Civic Park development â see the renderings. đš
CEO Andres Andujar of the Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corp. has also announced that construction on KĂŒnstler Brewingâs expansion is underway. The project will renovate the existing Pereida House into a space for the brewery. đș (San Antonio Business Journal)
Travel
Southwest Airlines has announced plans to ramp up both domestic and international nonstop services out of the San Antonio International Airport. Travelers can expect more flight options beginning on Thurs., March 9 through Mon., April 10. đ« (KSAT-12)

A five-year, $2 million federal grant has been awarded to the UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry to support a large special-care dental clinic that will serve adults with special needs as well as children with medical complexities â read more. đŠ·
Ranked
UIW has been ranked No. 6 in the nation by Military Times in its 2022 Best for Vets list (a significant jump from last yearâs No. 43 ranking). The survey took a look at 300 schools and rated them in several different categories including a range of resources and financial aid.
