This weekend, the community will come together to celebrate San Antonio as one of the World Heritage Cities.

The Organization of World Heritage Cities was founded on September 8 (also known as “Solidarity Day”). In honor of the special day, World Heritage cities across the globe celebrate their historic sites + culture with numerous events across their communities.

🥇 Why is San Antonio a World Heritage city?
SATX achieved this recognition in 2015 because of the five Spanish colonial missions – San José, San Juan, Concepción, Espada, and the world-renowned Alamo. The Missions now represent the only World Heritage site in Texas and one of just 24 in the US.

This year, the Alamo City will host a variety of events beginning tomorrow and running through Sun., Sept. 11. The celebration provides residents + visitors the opportunity to celebrate our city’s unique heritage while also supporting projects that preserve, maintain, and connect the community with these beautiful historic sites.

🎉 Here’s what you can expect:
  • Music and Movie Under the Stars | Fri., Sept. 9 | 6 p.m. | Mission Marquee Plaza | Free | Connect with our military historians + veterans to learn about our city’s rich military history featuring live music performances, short films hosted by Blue Star Contemporary, food trucks, and a screening of the Marvel film, “Captain America: The First Avenger.”

SATXtoday City Editor Top Article Picks in San Antonio, TX

Ivan and Rossi in Nashville
I couldn’t have asked for a better Co-Editor. | Photo by SATXtoday team
Today is the last newsletter that I write for SATXtoday, and it’s definitely bittersweet. But don’t worry, I’m not going far as I will take on a new role as Social Media Manager for Visit San Antonio.

So, before I officially sign off, here are seven of my favorite stories I had the chance to cover + write.
I had an incredible experience working for 6AM City + exploring and sharing SATX to our readers. I can’t wait to see who they hire next to celebrate the Alamo City.
THE WRAP
Today’s issue was written by Rossi.

Editor’s pick: One more final goodbye. Yesterday, I met with my lovely SATXtoday team for a late lunch at La Fonda on Main. It was delicious and such a great way to end my time here. I’m definitely going to miss this team (and you) so much. 💕
