Weather
  • The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for San Antonio from 1 p.m. today to 9 p.m. tomorrow. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids, shelter inside air-conditioned areas, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives + neighbors.
Edu
  • San Antonio ISD is seeking public input on its repurposing of 15 recently closed campuses. The first meeting happens tonight at Jefferson High School beginning at 6 p.m. Six additional gatherings will run through the first week of September.
Development
  • Lennar’s Guajolote Ranch development project is on hold. The group needs additional approval regarding a wastewater treatment facility it needs to service the future 2,900 homes. Last year, the project received approval to dump one million gallons of treated sewage daily into Helotes Creek, Culebra Creek, and Lower Leon Creek. (SA Business Journal)

  • $25,000. That’s how much money Methodist Healthcare donated to Spurs Give during a charity panel last week. The donation was given in celebration of the 25-year anniversary of former Spurs player Sean Elliott’s kidney transplant.
Plan Ahead
  • “Cobra Kai” stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka will appear at Big Texas Comicon. Plan ahead to see the duo at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center on Friday, Oct. 11 through Sunday, Oct. 13. Tickets are now on sale.

  • USAA CEO Wayne Peacock announced his retirement via company email. Peacock started with the company in 1998, assumed the CEO position in 2019, and led the company through the COVID-19 pandemic. He plans to retire during the first half of 2025, once a new CEO is selected. (SA Report)

  • San Antonio Sports announced the line up for the second annual San Antonio International Team Tennis Championships. The November competition will feature two teams consisting of top ATP & WTA players, and college players, at the Freeman Coliseum. Tickets go on sale Saturday, Aug. 31 at 9 a.m.
Transit
  • VIA Metropolitan Transit released its Labor Day schedule. The public transit system will operate on its Sunday schedule and its customer information line will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Its concerns line and all information centers will be closed.

      The world-renowned Morgan’s Wonderland theme park in San Antonio is getting a hotel. Morgan’s Hotel will be built near the park and will go beyond regular ADA requirements to provide a stay for visitors of all ages and abilities.

      Branded an ultra-accommodating hotel, guests will find spacious common areas and rooms that allow for independent movement. Its goal is to create an environment of acceptance for all travelers. This San Antonio location will serve as a model for accessible hotels and has a projected opening date in 2026.

      The latest development will have design features like:
      • Wider hallways
      • Larger guest rooms
      • Easy access to elevators
      In addition, staff will be trained in specialized services like disability etiquette and assistance with mobility devices.

      World-famous hospitality chains like Hilton, Marriott, and Hyatt are currently in negotiations with founder Gordon Hartman to be the first to place their name on this lodging project.
