The San Antonio African American Community Museum and Archive received the keys to its new space inside the Kress Building in downtown San Antonio. Learn about the museum’s plan for the cultural space and what’s coming soon.
Plan Ahead
The San Antonio Botanical Garden is hosting “Wish: Water Lanterns in the Garden” on Friday, Jan. 28 from 6-8:30 p.m. Guests can create their own lantern and cast them off into one of the Botanical Garden’s ponds. Purchase your ticket today.

A new fried chicken concept, Freight Fried Chicken, is coming to the Food Hall at Bottling Department in January. The new restaurant by Chef Nicola Blaque pays homage to the culinary history + traditions shared by Black Americans who used the dish for economic survival after the Civil War. (SA Current)

The City of New Braunfels is building a 135-acre sports park called the Zipp Family Sports Park. The $35 million project will provide opportunities for athletes of all ages + abilities to play soccer, baseball, disc golf, and pickleball. The project is scheduled for completion by spring 2025. Last week, we asked you about which Whatawings flavor you want to try first. Here’s what y’all said: 42% want to try the Sweet + Spicy, 23% are interested in the Honey BBQ, 17% want the Honeybutter, and 15% of you are interested in trying the Buffalo flavor.
When I have family visit San Antonio, they always want to visit the River Walk, check out the Historic Pearl, and find a spot to get Mexican food + margaritas. I usually meet up with them once they’re starting on margaritas. I’m a sucker for a spicy margarita on the rocks.
