SATXtoday has teamed up with local film photographer Aaron Christmas for a special project, and we want you to get involved.

Let’s create photographic postcards of San Antonio like the one above featuring the vibrant facade of Little Death Wine.

City Editor Nicholas here. Fun fact: One of my favorite hobbies outside of delivering you news straight to your inbox every day is to take pictures. I started photography in 2018 and have gradually immersed myself in the art.

Recently, I’ve become inspired to dive into the film side of photography. So let’s feed the film and get started.

The project

I’m teaming up with local photographer Aaron Christmas to create something special for the Alamo City — and we want you to be a part of it.

Aaron and I will venture downtown (when there isn’t an excessive heat warning) to capture the beauty of our iconic landmarks + locals in their day-to-day activities.

Along with expanding my photography knowledge and appreciation, the goal is to create a series of images that feel like postcards from San Antonio

We’ll take our rolls of film, develop them at Digital Pro Lab (remember its art exhibit last year?), and share our images with you. You’ll see our photos side-by-side in this article, but this is where you come in.

Get involved

Grab any camera — your phone or the one that’s been sitting in the donation box count — and go out into your neighborhood to create your own photo postcard.

Examples include a photo from a local sporting events (like the one above), music performances, festivals, or other local happenings.

Photos that do not include a local element will not be considered. Additionally, photos that include nudity or offensive language or visuals will not be accepted.

Technical difficulties

In the process of our photo walk, my film camera broke. I don’t want to say I thought this was going to happen, but an inner voice told me to bring my digital camera just in case.

Mistakes and errors are part of the process, but what I’ve learned in my time of being a photographer is to always have a backup plan. So off Aaron and I continued, capturing photos of our beloved city.

The pictures you’ll see next are captured on a digital camera, as opposed to Aaron’s, which was captured using film.

The developed results

We’re showing five photos each from you, Aaron, and City Editor Nicholas.

I want to give a big “thank you” to everyone who submitted a picture. We received over 100 photos, and I enjoyed seeing each one — it was so hard to choose, y’all are amazing photographers.

Even though I wasn’t able to capture moments using film, I’m grateful for the opportunity to team up with Aaron, and have you along for the journey.

Keep taking photos San Antonio.
