We asked, you answered. Back in December, we shared a guide on where to find plant-based eats in San Antonio, TX. We followed up on Instagram if a part two to this list is something we should explore — the answer was a resounding yes.
Viva Vegeria, 1422 Nogalitos St.
Tex-Mex food, but make it vegan + gluten-free. Chef Fred Anthony Garza has developed a menu focused on preserving Indigenous food of the land with specialty dishes like the mini nopales tacos with pickled jalapeño cabbage.
Earth Burger, Various locations
Established in 2014, and now with three locations in SA, Earth Burger became the first plant-based drive-thru in the US, pioneering vegan fast-food. Chef Mike, previous owner of Lulu’s Bakery, also established our next vegetarian eatery on this list. Pro Tip: students can dine for $7 on Tuesdays.
Green Vegetarian Cuisine, Various locations
With nearly 15 years of bringing vegan eats to the Alamo City food scene, this restaurant is a classic for those who are plant-based-curious. You can visit the Alamo Quarry or Alon location next to Phil Hardberger Park.
Hash Vegan Eats, 5007 S. Flores St.
Eat delicious plant-based meals paired with spirit-free cocktails from this spot’s dry bar. This Southside restaurant is the only alcohol free + hemp forward restaurant in the area.
Señor Veggie, 620 S. Presa St.
You can find this vegan eatery in the heart of SA and less than a 10 minute walk from Hemisfair Park. We can’t help but drool at the pupusas norteñas made with gluten-free corn masa, tempeh chorizo, cashew crema, pico de gallo, and roasted salsa.
Project Pollo, Various locations
With five locations in SA, and many more locations hatching up in neighboring cities, this plant-based chicken restaurant is seriously changing up the game. This spot serves up plenty of sandwiches, making it egg-actly what we are looking for.
