What’s hopping? Just north of downtown, Roadmap Brewing Co. is gearing up for the first-ever Detour Fest this Saturday, July 26, 12-5 p.m. The rollicking mini-beer fest will celebrate more than a dozen partner breweries coming together from all over the country.

It’s a natural extension of Roadmap’s ongoing Detour Series, which works behind the scenes to create collaborative brews with local breweries — like Cibolo Creek Brewing and Freetail Brewing — plus state and nationwide partners.

Don’t miss the chance to celebrate with other Lone Star State partners like Austin’s Hold Out Brewing, Midland’s Tall City, and Houston’s Equal Parts. And the party has gone national: Pittsburgh’s Dancing Gnome, Denver’s Strange Craft Beer, and St. Louis’s Modern Brewery will be there, too.

Admission is $35, and tickets can be pre-purchased online. Tickets include six 4-ounce pours and taproom access from 12 to 5 p.m. — not to mention a Detour Fest commemorative beer glass. Extra beer tokens are available for purchase at the venue. (Our personal favorite is the Craven Cottage English pub ale.)

The Wrap

There’s no place like home.

After my whirlwind cross-country trip the last 72 hours with layovers or pit stops in Las Vegas, Nashville, Baltimore, Harper’s Ferry, and Hanover, PA, it’s good to be back in the good old Alamo City just in time for a brand-new mini-beer fest in town, cocktails and wildlife observation at the Witte Museum or — for my fellow nerds — a Defense Against the Dark Arts magic show.

Maybe Dorothy had it right: If I ever go looking for my heart’s desire again, I’ll look no further than my own backyard.

Happy Tuesday!
