More Day of the Dead events

From its Movie Monday series to weekly night markets, the Historic Pearl knows how to bring the community together for a celebration.

This year’s holiday season is no exception with newly announced programming for Día de los Muertos.

The Pearl will honor the traditional Mexican holiday — which remembers loved ones who have died — on Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3. All festivities will be free and open to the public.

Here’s what you can expect at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2:
  • Face painting
  • Alebrije & Lelé Doll workshops
  • Vendor market
  • Ofrenda exhibition
  • Live music
  • A procession by Las Monas & Son Olvidados
The party continues at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3 with activities like:
  • An opening ceremony by Michael Quintanilla
  • A performance by UIW Mariachi & Lizeth Robledo
  • Catrin + Catrina contest
  • Live DJ
  • Azul Barrientos closing performance
Pro tip: for the first time, the Día de los Muertos River Parade will reach the Pearl at Museum Reach on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m.

  • Coffee Class | 6 p.m. | Curator Coffee | $15 | Dive into the art of coffee and learn all about it at this local cafe.

  • DiwaliSA | 4:30 p.m. | Hemisfair | Free | Celebrate the festival of lights with traditional Indian dancing, entertainment, food, and fashion.
Sunday, Nov. 3

  • Family Day: Time & Tales | 1-4 p.m. | McNay Art Museum | Free | This all-ages events will feature activities such as scrapbooking, collage making, tote bag screening, and live music.
