Come cheer on the Antonian College Preparatory High School football team as they go head-to-head with the Navarro Panthers at home on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.

Middle school students and families are invited to this year’s middle school tailgate held before the game, with festivities kicking off at 5 p.m.

Heads up: If you’re planning to attend, let the school know.

Closing
  • Greenhouse, a coffee shop located in Olmos Park, is closing. The recently-opened coffeehouse cites the rising real estate costs in the area for its closing. Greenhouse says this isn’t “goodbye forever, just a see you later.” It’s last day of service is Sunday, Sept. 15.
Festival
  • Luminaria announced the new location and artist lineup for its Contemporary Arts Festival. The free annual festival features over 100 artists representing an array of artistic genres. This year’s festival will take place at St. Paul’s Square on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 6 p.m. to midnight.

    Plan ahead for global arts and culture series PechaKucha San Antonio in September

    San Antonio isn’t slowing down when it comes to celebrating its culture. The global arts and culture series PechaKucha San Antonio is hosting its first event for 2024.

    Volume 44 is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 4, at the Carver Community Cultural Center’s Jo Long Theatre. Speakers from the local community will share their passions in a 20 image by 20 second format, for a total presentation time of six minutes and 40 seconds.

    In partnership with The Power of Preservation Foundation, the night will begin with a welcome reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by presentations starting at 7:30 p.m. The welcome reception will include:
    • Live music by local artists Los Dos Coyotes
    • Complimentary bites by San Antonio chefs and restaurants including Bakery Lorraine, Liberty Bar, Naco Mexican, and Tandem
    • Cocktails curated by Amor Eterno are available for purchase
    Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online.

    For their 30th anniversary, I bought them a cake from Lucy’s Cake Shop (the place where they got their wedding cake from in 1989) and surprised them. Yes, they did cut the cake together to celebrate.
