    Let’s go to the library

If you’ve ever found yourself driving through downtown, you’ve probably noticed a giant, red-orange building that looks straight out of a science fiction movie — that’s Central Library.

The building opened in 1995 as part of the San Antonio Public Library system. This downtown gem is much more than just somewhere you can grab a book. Here are some fun facts you should know about Central Library:
    • OSS junior headquarters — ring any bells? Central Library was featured in the blockbuster sequel “Spy Kids 2: Island Of Lost Dreams,” as the building where spies could congregate and work on their top-secret missions.
    • The building was designed by famed Mexican architect Ricardo Legorettaprotégé of the great Mexican modernist Luis Barragán.
    • Serving as the centerpiece of the library is a two-story, glass-blown sculpture appropriately named “Fiesta Tower” created in 2003 by world-renowned artist Dale Chihuly commemorating the 100th anniversary of the SAPL system.

    From the editor
Growing up, I remember watching “Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams” and pointing at the TV screen saying, “Hey, that looks familiar.” It rocked my world that the OSS HQ is the Central Library.
