We all know that San Antonio has a vibrant art scene — and we’re not just talking about The Witte or the McNay. One of our all-time favorite galleries? San Antonio itself.

The Alamo City is home to a number of meaningful murals and street art pieces. Today, we’re sharing where to find pieces that really paint a picture of our city.

Wellness

Celebrate Global Running Day tomorrow at 7 p.m. with Mila Coffee (203 8th St., Bldg. 2). The shop is hosting a free 5K run in partnership with the Coffee Run Club. All ages are welcomed and those attending will be entered into a raffle for a chance at prizes.

San Antonio scored a 53 out of 100 on the Trust for Public Land’s ParkScore. Out of the largest 100 US cities, the 210 climbed from 57 to 53 because of park acreage, ease of access to green spaces, and city investment in new parks. Get outside with our parks guide.

Taiwan-based 85°C Bakery Cafe is having a soft opening on Monday, June 10 to highlight its freshly baked breads and affordable cakes. Hours have yet to be announced, but the new sweets shop will have its grand opening on Friday, June 28.

Folklores Coffee House officially moved in to its new space at 1943 N. New Braunfels Ave. This punk coffee house at the corner of Grayson + North New Braunfels features its own unique poster collection and a diverse menu of cold brews, teas, and specialty drinks.

Encourage the kiddos to read with the San Antonio Public Library’s (SAPL), “Summer with SAPL" program. Visit your local branch for a paleta bookmark featuring a reading checklist. New bookmarks are available every week through Monday, July 22. This week’s bookmark is Red-Sicle and recommends reading about fantasy + culture.

New teen resource driving center opens in San Antonio

Summer’s here, which means more teens are hitting the road with a fresh license and their friends. However, the time period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is known as the 100 deadliest days for teens drivers.

To activate and educate unlicensed + new teen drivers, the San Antonio Municipal Court and Vision Zero SA partnered to create the Drive SAfely SA Resource and Education Center.

What does the resource center offer?

A curriculum of both of online and in-person courses, the new education hub teaches new drivers the following principles:

Safe driving practices
Defensive driving techniques
The dangers of distracted driving + driving under the influence

Vision Zero SA

Vision Zero is the San Antonio Municipal Court’s year-round initiative. Its goal is to improve public safety + advocate for friendly roadside behaviors through community outreach events and its new Drive SAfely SA Resource and Education Center.
