The heat in south Texas is straight up disrespectful, especially during the summer. If you live in San Antonio, you get a lovely mix of scorching heat and thick humidity from May through September.

We rounded up 16 different water activities in and around the Alamo City — even the free options — to beat the heat this summer.

City pools

SATXtoday: SATX parks and rec pool

San Antonio Parks and Recreations offers swim lessons for youth and adults.

The easiest way to cool off is by visiting one of the many city pools — and its free. The Aquatics Division of the San Antonio Park & Recreation manages 25 city pools. This department also offers swimming lessons for all ages. Currently, 11 pre-season pools are open while the remaining 14 pools open later this summer. The city pools are open Saturdays + Sundays from 1-7 p.m.

      SATXtoday: Little Runner Shuttle

      You may have seen an increase of free shuttle services around downtown San Antonio — the super convenient way to get around traffic and ongoing construction.

      We’re here to put you onto a free shuttle service that has recently expanded thanks to Centro San Antonio, UTSA, VIA Metropolitan Transit, and eCab North America (eCab). Announced yesterday with the approval of permits, comes the authorization of free public use of the Little Runner shuttle service.

      Little Runner explained

      Originally, this pilot program launched in early March as a UTSA student-focused program, providing over 2,000 rides to over 4,000 passengers. Now, all San Antonians and visitors can partake in the experience throughout downtown.

      Route and riding details

      Catch a ride Monday to Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

      If you see me at one of the resort pools on a weekday during the summer with my laptop, no you didn’t... just kidding. I’m excited for the summer months. Hopefully we don’t break any new heat records this year, last summer was brutal on our city and our electric bills.
