Take a trip with SAWS and learn about the Edwards Aquifer. | Photo by the Edwards Aquifer Authority
This isn’t the “Magic School Bus” but it’s the closest option we have in the Alamo City. Seat belts everyoneas we cruise down Main Street and inform you about this adult-only field trip opportunity coming from the San Antonio Water System (SAWS).
🚌 Field trip fun
The Rain to Drain experience gives Bexar County residents 18+ the chance to explore places not often seen by the general public for a full day. We’re talking visits to the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Cave, experiencing the inner workings of a SAWS water production facility, and touring a water recycling center.
Don’t miss: The next open session is on Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
🔍 What is there to learn?
Do you remember how fun your field trips were in elementary school? Maybe you visited the Alamo, a museum, or even Sea World with the goal of gaining first-hand knowledge.
The same thinking applies to the Rain to Drain experience. Here you’ll be able to grow your understanding of how SAWS ensures safe + reliable drinking water for 1.4 million San Antonians, see where water goes “after the flush,” and learn about our natural water supplier — the Edwards Aquifer.

The Buy
Your furry friend’s new spot to sleep. Say goodbye to traditional pet beds and pick your favorite print.
The only field trip I can remember really is my fifth grade class going to the Alamo. I remember us cheering followed immediately by “awww’s” because the teacher told us to bring a composition book to take notes for a future quiz.
