City Editors Nicholas and Adriana here — look, we all know some days are tougher than others. Allowing yourself to have a good, hard sob in the proper setting can often be cathartic and can help you work through whatever it is that’s bothering you in a healthy way.

To that end, here are four places around the 210 where we like to have a good cry. Let’s set the mood, Alexa, play “Hurt” by Johnny Cash.

1604 (Weekdays 4-6 p.m.), West or East

Listen, the construction isn’t going to be finished any time soon — it’s been going on for 63 years — and if you’re heading west towards Bandera Rd., that sudden three-lane merge into two causes a clog. It’s just the best vibe to dramatic sob whilst listening to “Mad Woman” by Taylor Swift.

Coffee + Culture (in the a.m.), front patio

Picture this: You’re sitting under the black and white striped umbrellas, pondering why you let a situationship happen. Maybe your mascara is runny but that’s okay, because an Oreo Croissant never broke anyone’s heart.

Paramour Bar

Were you just stood up? Don’t fret, take in the city skyline and the San Antonio River. In the words of the all-wise Samantha Jones from “Sex and the City”, “If he seems too good to be true, he probably is.” Was she ever wrong?

H-E-B Parking Lot (Pick any)

Ran into your high school ex while picking up some sugar? How about getting into the car and being gobsmacked at the price tag on the receipt? Either reason is good cause for us to tuck under a blanket and cry...good thing you have one in your car for this moment.

Is there a specific spot you like to cry around the Alamo City?

It should come as no surprise that San Antonio was named one of the “Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker 2024” in MovieMaker Magazine. The publication lauded our photogenic city with its 250 city-owned locations which offer free permits and turnkey film permitting. What can we say? The camera loves the San Antonio River Walk.

No wonder so many films + TV shows have been shot here, including:
  • “Miss Congeniality” | The beauty pageant itself is set in San Antonio, and you can see the River Walk in several scenes.
  • “Spy Kids” | You may have noticed that the spy headquarters (The OSS) looks familiar.
  • “Selena” | This 1997 biopic used the Alamodome as the set for the Astrodome in Houston.
  • “Squid Games: Backstories” | Contestant 393 competed in the “Squid Games” and shared her backstory about being the only deaf contestant.
