SAAACAM, 311 E. Houston St. | 2026 | In collaboration with Overland Partners, this African American digital cultural center is moving into the Kress and Grant buildings. Stay tuned for a two-story entry hall, a 500-seat auditorium, 40,000 sqft-exhibit hall, a research library, offices, lecture hall, and a rooftop terrace at the Grant building.

  • Locally owned + operated Freetail Brewery has hit the market for an undisclosed amount. The 16 year-old business — launched by Scott Metzger and Jason Davis — offers craft beer and bites including pizzas, salads, and sandwiches. According to the BizQuest listing, the company is selling its brewery and two area brewpubs.
Community
  • San Antonio for Growth on the Eastside named James Nortey as the organization’s new CEO. Nortey has over a decade of organizational governance + community engagement experience, and served on Austin’s Planning Commission. (SA Business Journal)
Development
  • Telsa is embarking on a new project in New Braunfels at 2740U I-35 N. Business details are being kept under-wraps but according to a filing, the 1,800-sqft facility is bringing a $200,000 electrical structure to the area. Construction is slated for Monday, Feb. 26 with an anticipated completion date of Feb. 24, 2025.

  • 7. That’s how many Burger Boy’s are located in the San Antonio-area. The newest location opened yesterday at 2209 SW Military Dr., and offers dine-in and drive-thru service.   • The Pride Center San Antonio announced new hours of operation. Community members can stop by Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The center is closed Fridays and Sundays.

  • San Antonio Animal Care Services is offering a free pet vaccine clinic this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at two locations: Animal Care Services and Highland Park. The first 100 San Antonio residents can bring up to three pets and must have a current ID for address verification.

Let’s roll out the red carpet, food lovers (and watch the crumbs). On Wednesday, Jan. 24, the semifinalists were announced for the 2024 James Beard Awards — one of the culinary world’s most prestigious prizes — and Military City stars are shining bright.

You’ll find five local chefs and an eatery are up for an award based on excellence and other factors like commitment to the community. But it’s an honor just to be nominated — getting on the James Beard radar is a game changer for any chef or restaurant, no matter how long they’ve been around.
