We just keep growing, in sustainable practices that is. The City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation announced that the Alamo City has been crowned as a “Tree City of the World” by the United Nations’ Food + Agriculture Organization and the Arbor Day Foundation.
San Antonio is the first city in Texas to receive the international recognition that honors our sustainability efforts. Here’s how we got it.
🌳 Better be-leaf it
San Antonio had to meet five standards made by the Arbor Day Foundation.
A designation made by city leaders, a team and staff member within the city are responsible for tree management and conservation.
The implementation of tree policies and regulations that preserve our urban canopy, which provide clear guidelines for tree protection and maintenance.
Taking inventory of local trees to track the health, growth, and needs to properly preserve saplings.
Providing increased funding to support programs to demonstrate a commitment to sustainable urban forestry.
Celebrating and showcasing the City’s collective commitment to cultivating a greener and more sustainable community through free and annual events.
🌳 How can I celebrate?
Whether you have a green thumb or are hoping to grow one, San Antonio has these upcoming tree giveaways + events to celebrate this milestone.
Adopting a tree can be rewarding for the entire family (and not just the planet). City Editor Nicholas’ family adopted a plum tree and his baby sister would like to birdwatch as the hummingbirds stole the plums.

The McNay Art Museum has welcomed its newest curator of Latinx Art, Mia Lopez. Lopez will collaborate across departments with the museum’s other curatorial areas to expand + infuse representation of Latinx artists through acquisitions and public programming.
Lopez’s position is the first of its kind and fully funded by the Leadership in Art Museums (LAM) initiative through 2028. LAM’s mission is to increase racial equity in leadership roles and within public art by funding museums.
The McNay is the only museum in Texas to be awarded this prestigious funding. “[Lopez] will substantially expand the scope of the McNay’s curatorial team while bringing a new, crucial expertise and perspective to our already outstanding group of curators,” said McNay Head of Cultural Affairs René Paul Barilleaux.
We are four days away from the “1989 Taylor’s Version” album release, and I am so excited. I leave for vacation on Friday and you best believe the album will be on the entire flight. My boyfriend isn’t ready for the person I will become when I hear the “Style” intro.
