The McNay Art Museum has welcomed it’s newest curator of Latinx Art, Mia Lopez. Lopez will collaborate across departments with the museum’s other curatorial areas to expand + infuse representation of Latinx artists through acquisitions and public programming.

Lopez’s position is the first of its kind and fully funded by the Leadership in Art Museums (LAM) initiative through 2028. LAM’s mission is to increase racial equity in leadership roles and within public art by funding museums.

The McNay is the only museum in Texas to be awarded this prestigious funding. “[Lopez] will substantially expand the scope of the McNay’s curatorial team while bringing a new, crucial expertise and perspective to our already outstanding group of curators,” said McNay Head of Cultural Affairs René Paul Barilleaux.
