Get out your chisels and climbing gear, folks. The results of our Mount Rushmore of San Antonio poll are in, and we’ve carved out the four names that came out on top: Selena Quintanilla, George Strait, David Robinson, and Coach Gregg Popovich.

Let’s get to know them a bit more.

Selena Quintanilla

The “Queen of Tejano Music”, Selena graced the city with her music + memorable outfits throughout the 1990s. She opened a boutique in the Alamo City called Selena Etc. but it unfortunately closed after her death.

Scenes from the 1997 biopic “Selena” were filmed in front of the Alamo and on the famous Selana Bridge along the River Walk. Try This: You can visit her many murals around town.

George Strait

Crowned the “King of Country” by country music fans alike, George Strait was born 30 miles south of the city in Poteet and was raised in Pearsall. The county music legend has racked up tons of accolades including:
  • Four American Music Awards
  • 15 Country Music Association Awards (including 71 nominations)
  • Eight Academy of Country Music Awards
He once lived in the Dominion neighborhood for 23 years, until he sold his 7,925-sqft house for an undisclosed amount.

David Robinson

David “The Admiral” Robinson was picked up by the San Antonio Spurs as the No.1 pick in the 1987 NBA Draft, but didn’t join them until 1989.

After winning two NBA Championships with the team, Robinson retired in 2003 and opened a charter school called the IDEA Carver Academy. Check out the Spurs’ documentary about the basketball legend.

Coach Gregg Popovich

The longest-tenured active NBA coach is right here in the Alamo City. Coach Gregg Popovich has spent 26 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, lead them to five NBA Championships, and has recently signed a new five year contract with the team.
