The San Antonio Spurs drafted Victor Wembanyama a few weeks ago, and now they are re-signing its head coach and team president, Gregg Popovich. According to the Spurs press release, Coach Popovich has signed a five year deal with the team. However, per club policies, no details about the contract were released.

Thanks to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, we have some details about contract. Here’s what we know:

  • Five year contract through the 2027-2028 season
  • Worth more than $80 million — the highest coaching contract salary in NBA history

Coach Popovich has been with the team since 1988 and took over as head coach in December 1996. Since then, Coach Popovich has won 1,366 games and is one of five coaches with at least five NBA championships.
Not only is he the oldest and longest-tenured coach of the league, Coach Popovich is also part of the Naismith Hall of Fame Class of 2023 and will be inducted next month.
