Did you know there are free family-friendly movie showings around Bexar County all year long? Here are a few locations to get your film fix this summer (and beyond).
On hot summer days, head select Santikos theater locations. Tickets on a first come first serve basis. Discounted food and drink packs for the kiddos are $4.50. Next movie: “Despicable Me” on Tuesday, June 13 at 10 a.m.
Pack up the blankets, chairs, + snacks and head on out to Boerne’s Main Plaza for their free Movies in the Park series. Arrive at 7 p.m., the film starts at sundown. Next movie: “Space Jam 2" on Friday, June 30 at 7 p.m.
Come watch a free monthly flick under the stars. Bring chairs, blankets, and cash for food + drinks. Showings start at sundown. Next movie: “Bad Guys” on Saturday, July 8.
Bring your chairs and blankets to the Tobin Center for free movie nights on the second Friday of most months. Concessions are available for purchase. Next movie: “In The Heights” on Friday, July 14.
Enjoy free movies in the park on Wednesday nights this summer starting at sunset. This year’s theme is throwback movies. Next movie: Monsters University on Wednesday, June 21.
Join the City of San Antonio World Heritage Office at its free annual Outdoor Family Film Series. Food trucks will be on site along with live entertainment. Movies starts at 7 p.m. and pets are welcomed. Next movie: “School of Rock” Thursday, June 15.
This outdoor movies series has free showings all around the Alamo City. You even have the option to host your own private outdoor movie event. Next movie: “Space Jam (1996)” at Travis Park.

Black Barbecue was ranked second on TravelAwaits’ “14 Best BBQ Restaurants in the U.S.” list. Located in New Braunfels, 45 minutes north of San Antonio, this barbecue joint has served its juicy smoked meats and delicious sides to the community for over 85 years.

Let’s head to the dome. Last week, the American Athletic Conference announced the time for UTSA’s football home opener. The Roadrunners will kick off their 13th season against the Texas State Bobcats at the Alamdome on Saturday, September 9. The game starts at 2:30 p.m.

After four years, San Antonio Spurs Fan Shop closed it’s location at the Shop of La Cantera and will move to a new spot this fall. Fans can continue to shop Spurs merch at the AT&T Center and online. No word on where the store will relocate to.

Okay it’s happening... it’s officially 100 degrees in San Antonio. I don’t know about y’all but the summers in San Antonio and I don’t get along. I’m not looking forward to burning my hands on my steering wheel and sweating in a hot shade until October. This might be the summer I finally shave my head (just kidding Mom).
