Local composer and sound artist Pamela Martinez will present free sonic art performances at two San Antonio dams this March.

These performances explore water as a carrier of culture throughout our city and are sponsored by the City of San Antonio Department of Arts & Culture.

With a rotating cast of collaborators creating sound and ceremony under the name Teletextile, the free public series seeks to bring awareness to local waterways and their importance in cultural connection.

đź’§ First event | Saturday, March 4 at 5 p.m.

The first act, dubbed Transformation, is a 30-minute immersive performance. The audience is invited to walk into the labyrinth dam’s teeth and experience a collaborative interpretation of transformation as it relates to the different states of water and a person’s ability to transform. The second act, Our Power Together, features an original score for percussion, horns, and choral elements.

Location: Lake Elmendorf’s 19th Street Dam

đź’§ Second event | Saturday, March 25 at 5:30 p.m.

The sonic experience will begin with musicians floating on kayaks on the San Antonio River for a reprisal of Our Power Together. The second act, titled Flow, invites guests to parade with singers and musicians along the river up to the floating pavilion and the unseen three-mile water tunnel beneath their feet. As a conclusion, a repeat rendition of “DAM! A Song of Water” will be performed — which originally opened the event series in October at the Spanish Colonial Mission.

Location: Roosevelt Flood Control Tunnel Outlet Park

Just like this week’s forecast, the race for the city’s official General Election is starting to heat up.

Earlier this week, the CoSA City Clerk held its lottery to determine the position of candidate names on the May 2023 General Election ballot. See the order online.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:
  • Early voting begins Monday, April 24 and runs through Tuesday, May 2.
  • Last day to register to vote is Thursday, April 6.
  • To verify voter registration and view polling locations, visit the Bexar County Elections website.
In June 2022, the San Antonio City Council approved new council boundaries. Pro tip: Residents can use the interactive mapping tool to verify which council district they reside in after this change.

The map also features neighborhood-level information, such as the location of SAPD substations, school districts, and waste collection service days.
THE WRAP

Editor’s pick: I’m totally here for these warmer days. I’m a Texan, after all. Hoping to take full advantage of the upper 70s + cloudy combo this weekend with a bit of hiking at Government Canyon.
