The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department announced that a license agreement for non-motorized watercraft rentals was approved by City Council.
In partnership with The Expedition School, this agreement will bring recreational watercraft rentals to Elmendorf Lake Park and Woodlawn Lake Park. This includes canoes, single and tandem kayaks, and — you guessed it — standup paddle boards.
But that’s not all. The Expedition School will also offer outdoor structured programming featuring adaptive paddling, health and wellness programs, camps, and professional water safety courses.
Continuing to build on its legacy of inclusion, the City of San Antonio hopes to offer accessible recreational opportunities and educational programming for residents. “We look forward to seeing people of all abilities kayaking and enjoying outdoor activities at Woodlawn Lake Park and Elmendorf Lake Park,” said Director of Parks and Recreation Homer Garcia III.
The Expedition School, whose mission is to provide the best and safest quality outdoor education experiences, has operated in Austin since 2006. This new agreement will allow the organization to begin expanding its connections to the Alamo City.
Rentals and educational programming are anticipated to launch this spring.

Drink
Save the bees, drink sotol 🐝

The cocktail, Paloma Preserve, can be purchased at any of the resort’s restaurants and bars. The drink uses Desert Door Texas Sotol’s Pollinator spirit, which is made from the West Texas-grown evergreen sotol plant — similar in profile to agave-based spirits like tequila and mezcal.
Pollinator was created with mesquite, persimmon, and honeysuckle, which are native plants that are pollinated by Texas bee species.
According to Desert Door’s nonprofit foundation Wild Spirit Wild Places, 40% of the honeybee population is lost every year in Texas due to pesticides, drought, habitat destruction, and disease.
Recently, honey harvested at the resort was also used in the brewing process of a new beer, Hill Country Honey Blonde, in partnership with Freetail Brewing Company.
