It’s finally happeningCivic Park at Hemisfair will break ground this Wed., Jan. 26, and San Antonio residents are invited to attend this special ceremony.

What is Civic Park?

While we know and love Yanaguana Garden for its amenities for all ages + abilities, Civic Park will add to that with eight unique spaces. This is part of Hemisfair’s efforts to revitalize and transform the area into a vibrant, walkable urban green space in the heart of the Alamo City.

When will the project be completed?

The development will be constructed in two phases with a goal to be completed in 2023. Phase I will start construction near the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center with three distinct areas — a promenade, a great lawn, and an area called the Shallows.

Let’s talk about Phase I:

The Promenade

San Antonio residents can expect a paved public walking area surrounded by shaded trees + greenery. The space will also be accessible for those biking and running.

The Shallows

This experiential water feature will be placed along the Promenade for all ages to enjoy. According to the Hemisfair Civic Park Vision and Program Plan, the concept will allow for interactive activities like sailing a model boat to chaise lounging in the water during those hot summer days.

Great Lawn

Adjacent to The Shallows and Promenade will be an open-style greenery space perfect for a picnic, recreational activities + event space that will accommodate a few hundred to several thousand people.
