15 developments and restaurants coming to San Antonio in 2023

Last year was all about groundwork. This year, we’re gearing up for grand openings.

2022 was quite the year for development news in the 210, and we loved covering every second of it. This year, however, we’ll finally get a chance to actually see their final product.

From renderings to reality, check out these 10 developments that will be completed in 2023.

UTSA School of Data Science, 506 Dolorosa St.

Opening: Monday, Jan. 9

Already proving to be a pioneer in big data, cybersecurity, cloud computing + artificial intelligence, this new six-story facility will house seven UTSA research centers.

Rosario’s, 722 S. St. Mary’s St.

Opening: Early 2023

Long-time Southtown staple Rosario’s announced its plan to move into a new location last year. The restaurant, which will feature a rooftop terrace and bar, is currently putting up the finishing touches before its grand opening announcement.

Jefferson Bank Headquarters, 1900 Broadway St.

Opening: Mid-January

Construction on the new 10-story headquarters is well under way for San Antonio-based Jefferson Bank. With just over 75 years under its belt, the bank has quickly solidified itself as one of the fastest-growing banking centers in the Broadway corridor.

Plantaqueria, 124 Broadway St.

Opening: February

Sofia Maria Renteria, owner of the plant-based taqueria, announced the long-awaited upgrade from pop-up to brick-and-mortar location. Until then, you can get your vegan taco fix at these locations.

Tin Top Flats at the Creamery, 847 E. Ashby Pl.

Opening: Spring

The largest addition to Pearl-area residential construction since the completion of Southline Residences, the Tin Top Flats will add 388 apartments where the historic Borden Dairy plant once stood.

The Rock (Phase I), I-10 and 1604 intersection

Openin: August
Planned for the first phase of the new Spurs training center is a performance center and community event plaza. A 22-acre park, along with other developments for the research hub, are soon to follow.

Civic Park (Phase I), Hemisfair

Opening: Fall

Civic Park will add to downtown’s outdoor public spaces in a major way. This is part of Hemisfair’s efforts to revitalize and transform the area into a vibrant, walkable urban green space.

The Josephine, 120 W. Josephine St.

Opening: September

This will be the last major addition to residential developments around Pearl in 2023. The Josephine apartments are expected to bring 261 mixed-rate units to the area.

The Floodgate, 143 E. Commerce St.

Opening: September

The 17-story apartment tower is anticipated to complete construction later this year and feature 63 luxury apartments + a restaurant at river level.

Elsewhere Too, NW Military and Loop 1604

Opening: Late 2023

After seeing massive success with its flagship bar + kitchen, Elsewhere announced a new Northside location that will boast a 370-sqft bar, 2,5000-sqft old Victorian greenhouse, and a Ferris wheel.

Smoke BBQ (Park North), 602 NW Loop 410

Opening: TBA

The most recent development news came from Smoke BBQ+Skybar at the beginning of the year with an announcement of its sixth location at the former Old Miami Bar.

🏗️ Projects breaking ground in 2023

These developments will begin construction this year, but will not be completed until 2024 or later.

300 Main, 305 Soledad St.

Opening: 2024
At 400 feet tall, this new residential tower is planned to be one of San Antonio’s tallest buildings.

Hemisfair hotel, 222 S. Alamo St.

Opening: 2025

The 17-story, 200-room boutique hotel will overlook the ongoing Civic Park development and host a space for a park-facing restaurant + five retail spaces.

Elmira apartments, 1126 E. Elmira St.

Opening: 2025

Site work on the corner of Elmira and Schiller streets began in June. Once complete, the development will feature 256 units as well as retail space on the ground floor.

Ninth-tallest downtown tower, Hemisfair

Opening: TBA

While there is no set date for groundbreaking, the proposed downtown 28-story, mixed-use tower is one step closer to actualization following the approval from the HDRC.
