The San Antonio Food Bank is celebrating some big wins this year. From a recent $200,000 donation from Whataburger and launching its affordable housing project, the organization is now planning for a major improvement to its headquarters on the city’s West side.

The goal for the $3.5 million, 19,000-sqft renovation project planned for early 2025 is to improve the nonprofit’s volunteer experience and increase its current numbers. This is the third time since opening in 2008 that the facility has been expanded or remodeled.

With the assistance of San Antonio-based firm Elevate Architecture, the remodel will include:

  • Updated volunteer lobby
  • A new volunteer welcome and orientation center
  • A volunteer engagement space
  • More room for sign-in kiosks

The organization plans to fund raise for the project beginning next year, with a targeted renovation completion date in late 2025.
