You know we’re all about supporting our local businesses in the Alamo City, which is why we’re excited for Earth Day this Fri., April 22.
This year’s Earth Day initiative is centered around investing in our planet — and there are lots of ways buying locally supports sustainability. To promote this goal within our community, we are introducing you to our #BuyLocalBuyGreenSATX campaign.
To celebrate the global initiative, we are challenging you — and ourselves — to only shop locally for one week. Or, at least try to swap out a few basic purchases with local options. What would this look like? Think: Starting your morning with a trip to Southtown for a Big Red Latte from Alley Cat Coffee (Pro Tip: if you bring your own cup you save 20% off your purchase), stopping by Chicho Boys Fruit Market for local produce, or perusing spring fashion at Tightwad Thrift — they have an entire $1 section to look through. We want to follow along with your journey, as well as share ours with you. To do so, we are asking you to share photos of your local purchases, shopping sprees, or other Earth Day activities on social media using the hashtag #BuyLocalBuyGreenSATX. Throughout the week, we will spotlight what our community is up to in our newsletters + social feeds. Don’t have social media but want to participate? Send us your photos via email. ☕ We don’t know about you, but we’ll be starting our days with a local caffeine boost. The San Antonio River Authority and the SA River Foundation are partnering with local coffee shops for their Coffee for Conservation initiative for the month of April. Bonus: Be the 100th sustainable customer at any of participating coffee shops and win a swag bag.
👗 Does your closet need a bit of a spring cleaning? Donate your gently used items to our local Buffalo Exchange locations and make sure to stop by its cash only $1 Sale in happening Sat., April 23.
🚲 Get out and show your support for our beautiful city by participating in the Earth Day Community Garden Ride with Ghisallo Cycling Initiative and Gardopia Gardens. The event is free and will visit four local community gardens to learn about their contributions + impact in their neighborhoods.
🌮 Have you tried local plant-based business Plantaqueria? Make sure to try one of its new vegan breakfast tacos at Stranded Coffee or the vegan birria pizza of the month in collaboration with another local plant-based business Verve Pie.
🌳 Lastly, Celebrate Earth Day with other San Antonians at Woodlawn Lake Park on Sat., April 23. This fun-filled event will feature over 50 environmental organizations, hands-on family activities, free tree adoptions + fitness classes, live music, and local food vendors.
