Where in the world is San Antonio?

The city of Zigong in China lit up at night during a lantern festival. Traditional Chinese buildings are in red, with a white spire in the water in front. There are intricate designs with yellow and green lighting casting a dramatic effect beneath a jet-black sky.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you walked in a straight line around the world from San Antonio? Wonder no longer, wanderer. Let us introduce you to LatLon Connect, an online tool that allows users to explore cities across the world that share the same latitude and longitude.

Here’s what we found

We stuck with the default settings, looking for places with 100,000+ people with a buffer zone of 6.21 miles (that’s 10 kilometers).

In our search, 15+ results popped up, with one place that caught our eye lying on the other side of the world: the Chinese city of Zigong, pictured above. As of recent estimates, there are more than 2.5 million people living in the city, which is renowned for its salt manufacturing history + industry, as well as the large amount of dinosaur fossils found in the region.

The largest US city the Alamo City is aligned with? Wichita Falls in North Texas. We won’t spoil which other places we found — find out for yourself.

In 1998, Palo Alto College freshman and runner Samantha Tapia had a medical emergency during a cross-country meet and passed away days later. Her legacy continues to inspire the PAC community today.

Each year, Palo Alto College hosts The Paloween Hustle 5K/10K in Honor of Samantha Tapia to celebrate her memory and raise funds for the Samantha Tapia Endowment, which supports student-athlete scholarships.

This year’s event is Saturday, Oct. 18, 8-11 a.m. on the PAC campus. Participants can look forward to:
  • A commemorative 5K or 10K run/walk
  • A scenic campus route
  • An event t-shirt and medal
  • Awards for top finishers in each category
Registration is $30 for the 5K and $40 for the 10K. Parking is available in all student lots; streets will be closed during the race for safety.

Pro tip: Stick around after the race for the free Palomino Pumpkin Patch.

Can’t attend? San Antonians can still support the Samantha Tapia Endowment through donations.

While I didn’t wind up being able to compete in the World Taco Eating Championship 2025 at Taco Cabana, I did have an absolutely amazing time attending — and meeting winner + champion taco eater Geoffrey Esper, who ate 51 Taco Cabana bean and cheese tacos in just eight minutes, setting a new world record.

Let’s hear it for Geoffrey (and tacos)!
