A 9-year-old equestrian in the La Vernia area set up a lemonade stand selling $2 lemonade to raise money for Hill Country flooding victims — and raised more than $2,000. Don’t forget: those looking to give directly to local flood relief can also donate to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. (KABB)
Development
Even more construction could be coming to just outside northwest San Antonio with a huge housing development slated for Fair Oaks Ranch. Officials approved $60 million in infrastructure improvements for the project off Ammann Road, which plans to build 278 one-acre lots. (San Antonio Business Journal)
Community
The San Antonio Central Library is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and its contributions to the city are greater than ever. This vibrant red landmark designed by Ricard Legorreta houses half a million books and offers a range of other services including an art gallery, streaming service, fitness stations, and playgrounds.
Mansion Monday
A game of pool or a day by the pool? Those are the choices that await whoever buys this gorgeous Stone Oak estate. Its marble flooring and European-style architecture accompany elegant, spacious, wood-laden interiors. And the outdoor space is a party-hosting dream.
Eat
Today is National Mac and Cheese Day, and one thing’s for sure — this time-honored staple is one of America’s favorite dishes. Celebrate with food challenges, new twists at home, or stopping by local eateries with stellar mac and cheese recipes like 2M Smokehouse or Pinkerton’s Barbecue.
History
It might feel like Y2K was just yesterday, but we’re officially closer to 2050 than we are to 2000. While we have no idea what’s in store for the next 25 years, we are looking forward to these local events in the next couple of weeks. (Buzzfeed)
Travel
Some of your favorite snacks might not make it through airport security. TSA recently clarified that spreadable and spillable foods like peanut butter, hummus, and yogurt are subject to “liquid rules.” Keep that in mind before heading to San Antonio International for your next trip. (USA TODAY)
The Word
“Fridge cigarette.” A snack or drink — most often a Diet Coke — used as an excuse for a short break, akin to a smoke break. If you’re going to join the trend, might as well head to a local farmers market and stock the fridge with some healthy snacks. (Today)
