🥤 Reduce, reuse, and shop local

It’s well established that supporting + shopping local in San Antonio is totally our vibe. What if there was a way to buy local, recycle, and save money? That’s a win win in our book.

Here are three San Antonio spots offering discounts for going green.

Laika Cheesecake & Espresso

The hardest part is choosing which of this week’s flavors you want to indulge in. If you go the route of its cheesecake jar packs, collect 10 + bring them back washed to either location for a free cheesecake jar of your choice.

Viva La Calle

You know we’re a fan of its aguas frescas. But did you know you can take home a bottle of your favorite flavor? Even better, bring back the clean container for half-off your refill. Find it at the Pearl Farmers Market + Alamo Quarry Market on the weekends.

We get it — Girl Scout cookie season is exciting (and yes, we did purchase our Thin Mints), but there’s so much more to the organization than delicious treats.

Today’s Girl Scouts take charge of their journeys, choosing from a range of activities designed to help them grow in confidence, courage, and character. Think:
  • Exploring the outdoors
  • Diving into STEM
  • Discovering the arts
  • Developing leadership skills
  • Building life skills and confidence
  • And more

Girl Scouts is girl-led and designed for the modern girl, giving her the freedom to decide what she wants to do and learn.

The program gives girls the tools they need to create the world they want to live in. Along the way, they build lasting friendships, explore new passions, and uncover hidden talents — all while discovering who they are and what they’re capable of.

Psst... It’s the perfect time to get your child involved. Troops are forming for girls of all ages, and Daisy recruitment is open for kindergarten to first-graders. Plus, summer camp registration is available for both sleepover and day camps.

San Antonio-founded Southwest Airlines is changing its bag policy. For tickets purchased on or after May 28, customers who aren’t in the Select Business class will have to pay for checked bags. Southwest declined to release bag pricing. Planning a trip soon? Take a look at our SAT guide. (CNBC)

Civic

In honor of yesterday being 3-11 Day, The City of San Antonio released an updated version of its 311SA app. Updates include a redesigned home screen, enhanced search, detailed reports, and a community leader board. Don’t know what to report? Might we suggest our city’s pesky potholes.

Night owls, it’s your time to shine. Later this week, a total lunar eclipse will be visible across the US, illuminating the moon in a dusty red hue called a “blood worm moon.” Here in San Antonio, the total eclipse will begin on Friday at 1:26 a.m. (NPR)

I was able to take my sister to the San Antonio Museum of Art over the weekend and she absolutely loved it. I’m planning to take her to the McNay next for its new “Sport and Spectator” exhibit. See y’all there.
