Feliz Hispanic Heritage Month, San Antonio. The observance started yesterday and runs through Tuesday, Oct. 15 — spotlighting the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic Americans with roots in Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central + South America.
What is Hispanic Heritage Month?
Sept. 15 coincides with the date when five Latin American countries declared independence from Spain in 1821 — Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras + Nicaragua. Mexican Independence Day is Sept. 16 (Dieciséis de Septiembre), while Chile’s is Sept. 18.
How to celebrate
In San Antonio, Hispanic Heritage Month events are already rolling; here’s a sampling of the many fiestas around town. Vamos, amigos y amigas.

Weathered Souls Brewing is closing. The brewery thanked its customers for eight years of business. Swing by on Saturday, Sept. 21 for one last pint + a community bottle share before its last day of business on Sunday, Sept. 22.
Plan Ahead
The Limantour Bar in Mexico City is coming to Sternewirth at Hotel Emma for a limited-time cocktail pop-up. Visit the bar from Monday, Sept. 23 through Saturday, Sept. 28 to Limantour’s famous Fluffy Paloma, Tequila Sour, and the Spicy Mango Margarita.

The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo announced additional music acts coming to the annual event. Get ready to see Koe Wetzel, Nate Smith, Muscadine Bloodline, and more at the Frost Bank Center this upcoming February. Tickets are on sale now.

Over the past year, we’ve gotten to share exciting news about some upcoming historic developments bringing big changes to San Antonio’s skyline.
From the new Hemisfair hotel to a downtown baseball district, there’s no denying that there seems to be a sort of renaissance coming to the 210. However, you may be surprised to know that building in the heart of the Alamo City comes with its challenges.
What is the Office of Historic Preservation?
The Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) is dedicated to protecting the historic, cultural, architectural, and archaeological resources that make our city special. Along with the Historic and Design Review Commission (HDRC), the OHP oversees a design review process for exterior alterations to historic landmarks and districts.
