Home ownership is relatively affordable in San Antonio compared to other city metros. However, once you start to factor in day-to-day repairs, maintenance, and upgrades, you’re looking at a CVS receipt-length of costs.

Thanks to these local rebates, incentives, and programs — you might be able to save some green, often by going green. A win, win.

Weatherization

Who doesn’t love free? Let us introduce you to the Casa Verde Program by CPS Energy. For income-qualifying homeowners + renters, you can get a weatherization kit that includes free upgrades for attic insulation, air-sealing measures, LED light bulb replacements, duct sealing, and wall insulation.

Going solar

In sunny San Antonio, solar panels are a great way to cut your energy bill, but they can be a huge investment. To offset the costs, homeowners with a solar system can utilize a 30% federal tax credit in 2024.

Don’t know where to start? Check out our solar panel guide and take a look at Bring Solar Home’s website. Here, you’ll learn the fundamentals of installing solar panels on your home, deciding if it’s right for you, and applying for technical assistance.

Upgrade to the water-efficient yards of the future thanks to San Antonio Water System’s WaterSaver Coupons + Rebates — which includes lawn conversions, irrigation upgrades, and rainwater capture systems.

If you do go the rainwater capture route for your home garden, consider a cistern rebate. You must have a 500 gallon-minimum cistern installed to be eligible for this program, offering $1 per gallon for up to 2,000 gallons.

Need tools for your next garden project? Browse through the city’s Community Tool Shed program that allows you to borrow tools from the city for free.

Meet the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center

Every car needs an engine, every pen needs ink, and every city needs a community-based cultural hub — ours is in the Westside.

Specifically, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center (GCAC) sits at the heart of SA’s Chicano, Latino, and Native American arts communities. Expect tons of events throughout the year — so let’s get right into it.

    How it started

Before the Arts Center had a center, it was a group of Chicano/a artists determined to shape the San Antonio cultural arts scene. The mission of the Performance Artists’ Nucleus (PAN) was to support artists seeking municipal funds for their work, “[realizing] that vital decisions were being made for Mexican-American and Latino communities without their input.

In 1980, PAN secured funding for the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, a national model for multidisciplinary community organizations. The GCAC offers year-round programming + classes across six disciplines: dance, theater, visual arts, music, film, and literature.
