Firework safety

Did you know that larger fireworks explode at a diameter of 800+ feet (about 50 ft shy of the Tower of the Americans’s height)? Pretty incredible — until they go off on your lawn. Luckily, there’s rules in place so you can contribute to the spectacle safely.

Due to ongoing drought conditions, most fireworks have been banded in Bexar + surrounding counties (except for sparklers, poppers, and smoke bombs). If you decide to DIY, follow these guidelines.

    Mango madness

Where to shop imported mangoes in San Antonio

Name a better trio than the lake, a cold one, and some packed fresh mango — we’ll wait.

Peak mango season occurs between May and September, but the varieties with the most flavor are typically sourced from India and Pakistan. Here’s where you can find these imported goodies in San Antonio:

Man Pasand Indian Pakistani Halal Groceries Supermarket, 3727 Colony Dr.
This Indian supermarket carries seven varieties of mangoes, including alphonso, kesar, and bangalpali.

Solano Produce, 1500 S. Zarzamora St.
This warehouse sells fresh fruits + veggies in bulk, offering up to 8-count boxes of ataulfo, kent, and maduro mangoes for $4-$7.

Heads up. Imported mangoes mean a shorter shelf life. Enjoy these fruits within two days of purchasing before they spoil.
