Civic
  • The San Antonio Water System voted yesterday to propose a roughly 23% increase to its impact fees. Typically used to offset the cost of running utilities to new developments, developers can see rates increase from $5,902 to $7,343 at the lower end. City Council will hear the proposal in late spring.
Closed
  • The Krazy Katsu location in the Medical Center (9390 Huebner Rd.) is temporarily closed after its copper electrical panel was stolen. During the closure, the San Antonio eatery has a second location in Olmos Park (5257 McCullough Ave.) that remains open to satisfy your fried Japanese sandwich needs.
Development
  • The city’s Zoning Commission approved of rezoning for the Lofts at Grocer project at 421 N. Medina St. Local organizations American Agape Foundation and Partners in Community Development plan to construct 48-units to create a senior affordable housing community. The Historic and Design Review Commission still needs to approve before breaking ground. (SA Business)

  • A new coffee shop opened in the La Villita Village in downtown San Antonio at 418 Villita St. Maverick Coffee is a concept by Chef Johnny Hernandez and serves up caffeinated beverages like the Lone Star Mocha + a Mazapán Latte. Don’t forget to check out its food menu including breakfast tacos and breakfast bowls.
Arts
  • The McNay is opening a new exhibit called “A Particular Beauty: 19th-Century French Art” on Wednesday, March 13, curated by Semmes Foundation Intern Noelle Yongwei Barr. The exhibit explores topics like gender, race, disability studies, and the LBGTQ+ community. Visitors can view works from the museum’s collection from Edgar Degas to Jean-François Millet.
Festival
  • Trader’s Village is celebrating the 2024 Cajun Fest on Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Guest can chow down on the Cajun Plate (boiled shrimp + crawfish) and Gumbo (shrimp, crab, sausage, and fish) for $11.99 each while browsing through 1,000 vendors. Admission is free but parking is $6.

    Texas’ favorite grocery chain, H-E-B, opened its newest store just minutes north of the Alamo City in Fair Oaks at 29388 IH 10 West — Boerne readers, we’re looking at you. Here, everything is better, or at least that’s what San Antonians say about their favorite neighborhood grocery store.

    Besides being the go-to grocer for many San Antonians, H-E-B operates over 430 stores in Texas + Mexico, and has sales of $43+ billion.
