So grab your shades, SPF, and trusty water bottle — here are some of the Alamo City’s best.

Nature parks

OP Schnabel Park San Antonio

O. P. Schnabel is a little hidden but offers great trails and amenities.

Phil Hardberger Park, 8400 N.W. Military
Having East and West entrances, this park boasts a land bridge, dog + kid park, as well as eight miles of trails. Pro tip: Want to get some online work done? The Urban Ecology Center offers free wifi.

O. P. Schnabel Park, 9606 Bandera Rd.
This 202-acre park features miles of walking + hiking trails, playgrounds, outdoor pavilions. Keep an eye on its fitness class calendar for future sessions.

Valero Trailhead, 5902 N.W. Loop 1604
The City of San Antonio is home to the Howard W. Peak Greenway Trail System with over 82 miles of developed multi-use and accessible trails. Take a stroll through one of four greenways to get your nature fix.

Dwight D. Eisenhower Park, 19399 N.W. Military Hwy.
Spend a great weather day hiking one of seven trails at this local park and stay for a family picnic.

Brackenridge Park, 531 Brackenridge Way
Brackenridge has been San Antonio’s watering hole for over 12,000 years equipped with walking trails, the San Antonio Zoo + Kiddie Park, Japanese Tea Garden, fishing, and more.

Confluence Park, 310 W. Mitchell St.
One of City Editor Nicholas’ favorite city parks, Confluence Park is as the name suggests, sits at the intersection of San Antonio’s waterways. Not only can you walk along a connecting trail to the San Antonio Missions, but it also hosts kayaking events throughout the year.

  • Giving Tuesday, an annual celebration of generosity. The Big Give SA is opening donations at 11 a.m. for local organizations like Autism Paciente and the AVA: America’s Walking Club. Use this interactive map to check out charitable movements across the globe.

  • Local music group Agarita is moving to a new HQ in Southtown next year. The Agarita Loft, is a 14,000-sqft home that will feature the ensemble’s rehearsal + office space, an intimate concert venue, lecture series, art gallery, and more. Check it out at 724 S. Alamo #1.
Sports
  • Toyota Field will host the US Men’s Soccer National Team with a match against Slovenia on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. Be sure to join US Soccer Insiders for access to presale tickets beginning this morning.
Arts
  • The Carver Center is opening a new art exhibition titled “PHASES " with works by San Antonio local, Laurae. Stop by the Carver Art Gallery at 226 N. Hackberry St. tomorrow from 6 to 9 p.m., featuring wine, networking, and mini foods. Be sure to RSVP.

  • Sleigh bells ring, are you listenin’? The Alamo City was ranked No. 5 on Thumbtack’s “Most Festive Cities in the U.S.” The ranking was based off of festive home projects and the amount of holiday decor. Texas cities takes the top spots with Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Houston.

  • Archie’s Coffee Lounge announced it’s expanding with two new locations: one in downtown San Antonio and the other in San Marcos. Details of grand opening dates have not been shared at this time. Visit its current location at 9630 Huebner Rd.

  • Climbing, yoga, and fitness studio, Armadillo Boulders is hosting a Winter Art Bazzar on Saturday, Dec. 16 from 12 to 3 p.m. Shop from local vendors selling clothes, jewelry, prints, and paintings. The event is free and for the public. Interested in becoming a vendor? Send them an email.

  • The Old West Christmas Light Fest is happening in Boerne. Visitors can enjoy s’mores roasting, pictures with Santa, live music, holiday lights, and more. Tickets are on sale now and start at $24. Nights are open on select dates from 5 to 10 p.m.
