Wake up and smell the roses y’all, a new hotel is finally on its way to Hemisfair. Zachry Hospitality unveiled the moniker of its new 200-room hotel, let us introduce you to the Monarch San Antonio.

Inside the hotel

Project leaders of the new 17-story building described the building as giving Civic Park an abrazo (Spanish for hug) because of its curvature design.

The Monarch San Antonio will sit on 1.5 acres near the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center at 222 S. Alamo Street, and is a product of the partnership between Zachry Hospitality + Hilton Hotels & Resorts. The hotel will also join the hotel mogul’s Curio Collection.

Here are a few details about the hotel:
  • 180 guest rooms, including 14 suites
  • Terrace pool
  • Rooftop restaurant + bar
  • Full service spa
  • 10,000 sqft of event + meeting space

Fun fact: The grandfather of the Zachry Hospitality CEO + President, David Zachry, built the Palacio del Rio located across the street.

What’s in the name?

The hotel name was inspired by the Monarch butterfly that migrates through San Antonio every fall. The Monarch San Antonio’s location will have the best of everything the Alamo City has to offer, like Civic Park, the River Walk, the Alamo, and La Villita — the hotel is anticipated to become one of the city’s cultural hubs for locals and visitors alike.

The Monarch San Antonio is set to open in early 2026.

Did y’all see the trailer for Marvel’s “What If?” season two? I love the sandbox method of switching iconic character stories. I would love to see an episode where Iron Man gets the Venom Symbiote — a boy can dream.
