Some people make to-do lists — we make to-dine lists. Many hot new San Antonio restaurants have opened over the past several months, from pizzerias to high-end sushi.
To satisfy those who are really hungry for fresh dining options, we’ve got details on several more Alamo City restaurants coming soon, too. Grab your forks as we dig right in.
Comfort Cafe | 6812 Bandera Road, Suite 101 | Brunch | Reservations: No
After closing due to flood damage in 2021, this pay-what-you-can restaurant (part of the Smithville-based recovery center SerenityStar) reopened in August and serves all your brunch favorites including pancakes and eggs benedict.
Lovers Pizza | 1107 Roosevelt Ave. | Pizza | Reservations: No
This pizza joint is bringing New York-style pizza to the 210. Since July, this spot has been serving up slices + whole pies, hand mixed sodas, and homemade desserts. Pro tip: The restaurant only takes cash and Venmo.

Local developer James Lifshutz has halted the $60 million San Jose Village plan near Roosevelt Ave. The 17-acre project that is bringing new residential and commercial development to the area has now been pushed back due to a delay in the reconstruction of the avenue. (SA Business Journal)

Due to popularity of the McNay’s newest exhibit, the “Dreamland | Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” is now offering free timed-entry reservations for the exhibition available online. An admission ticket is still required to enter the museum.
Closing
The Art Institute is closing its remaining eight schools across the country, including its campus in San Antonio. This announcement came last week via email and has left over 200 local students scrambling to find a new school. The last day of operation for the Art Institute is Saturday, Sept. 30. (SA Current)
Legacy
Hall of Famer and former San Antonio Missions baseball player, Brooks Robinson has died this week at the age of 86. Robinson played for the local baseball team from 1956 to 1957 before joining the Baltimore Orioles.
Festival
Ready to be on your wurst behavior? The annual celebration of German Culture, Wurstfest, returns this fall. Make it a day trip to New Braunfels beginning Friday, Nov. 3 through Sunday, Nov. 12 to enjoy food + beer, music, dancing, and games. Tickets are now on sale.

Northside ISD is hosting a Community Safety Forum for its student’s parents at the Northside Activity Center on Wednesday, Oct. 4 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The forum will discuss topics about vaping and e-cigarettes, and will have guest speakers. Pre-register for the event today.

The Beignet Stand is offering limited edition beignet flavors. Located at 8343 Broadway, come try out the Cilantro Pesto, Bacon, Ranch, and Jalapeno Popper beignets. These flavors are now available for purchase and can be paired with any of their coffees.

Texas Fashion Week hits the runway in San Antonio

Strike a pose. Texas Fashion Week is back in San Antonio for its third year beginning Sunday Oct. 1 through Saturday, Oct. 7. Organized by the Texas Fashion Industry Initiative, the week will be filled with 20 emerging fashion designers from Texas and out of state, including three college-level designers from Texas universities.
What is Texas Fashion Week?
This week gives up-and-coming designers a chance to show off their upcoming collections to the public. All week long, attendees will have the chance to experience four runway shows, fashion + beauty panels, a high school sustainability competition, exhibitions, and networking opportunities.
We think Miranda Priestly would be proud. As “The Devil Wears Prada” lead character always says ... “That’s all.”
