Fun fact: Some proposed Texas flags included green (for victory, borrowed from the Mexican flag) and gold.
The hoist
At the hoist end of the Texas flag — that is, the end near the flagstaff — a blue stripe bears the iconic Lone Star.
The current Lone Star flag was adopted in 1839, but the symbol represented Texan unity and independence decades before. The Jane Long Flag flown in 1819 may have been the star’s debut.
One of my most recent favorite memories of myself and my best friends from high school was going to the “Mean Girls” trivia last month. Since we quote the movie in our group chat almost daily, we all dressed up in pink, brought our dogs (except for my best friend Mabel and yes I’m still salty about this), and we enjoyed the That’s So Fetch drink.
It was also my dog’s birthday so my best friend Erin bought the dogs a little treat. It was the best night.
