One tequila, two tequila, water (because we’re responsible). Today is National Tequila Day and we wanted to highlight a local spirits company taking over the drink scene in the Alamo City.
Have you heard of Saint Maya Tequila? You’ve probably seen them at local bars like El Camino, Southtown 101, or Amor Eterno. This up-and-coming company is giving us the inside scoop (thanks to co-owner, Zack Ramirez) on who they are, what they’re bringing to San Antonio, and how you can grab a bottle.
How did Saint Maya Tequila get its start and why was the company created?
We’re a founding group of three (Zack Ramirez, Jay Torrez, and Jordan Simmons) who started the company two years ago. We didn’t have any experience in the spirits industry or even bar experience, we just really love tequila.
After looking at the market and realizing there wasn’t a brand out there that represented San Antonio, we decided to create it. It took a lot of research trips to Mexico and mistakes, but ultimately we were finally able to get a product on shelves.

What is Saint Maya’s mission and goals?
We really want to showcase the versatility of a premium tequila and how it is a truly great spirit that you can enjoy in a variety of ways. For our brand, we want to represent San Antonio in the best way possible and give people a taste of the city in a bottle.
What’s the company’s biggest accomplishment to date?
Just getting a product on shelves honestly. We hit quite a few roadblocks on the journey to even get our first production run made, so we’re super proud of the team for not giving up and figuring things out as we go. Now we’re in over 50+ locations throughout Texas.
Share your Saint Maya Tequila (responsibly) with your friends.

San Antonio Business Journal hosted the 19th annual Best Places to Work Awards at the University of the Incarnate Word. This program, in partnership with Quantum Workplace for Best Places to Work, recognizes local companies who have created supportive work environments for its employees.
How does it work?
Quantum Workplace sends company employees a survey looking into three areas: amenities, benefits, and workplace culture. Then a scoring system is created based on the survey results. The winners are then organized into five categories based on company size:
Extra-small (10 to 24 employees)
Small (25 to 49)
Medium (50 to 99)
Large (100-249)
Extra-large (250+)
And the winners are...
This year, 100 companies were recognized. Here are the ones who landed on top:
Happy National Tequila Day, for those who partake. When I go visit my parents, my mom and I like to make spicy margaritas, and of course we have our own recipe.
I won’t reveal the entire recipe, but it does include extra jalapeños and a few dashes of spicy olive juice. Our margaritas are always served along side chips, salsa, and guacamole.
