San Antonio has 12 sister cities — and three friendship cities — across the world. This international program, Sister Cities International, was created after WWII for economic development, cultural, and technical exchanges between US cities, counties, and states with communities worldwide.
Baguio, Philippines was approved as our newest sister city by the San Antonio City Council on May 11, 2022 — it was previously our friendship city.
Fun fact: San Antonio won the “Sister Cities International 2019 Award for Best Overall Program” for a city population greater than 300,001.

On the run? Snag some frozen margaritas to-go and take a stroll at the River Walk. This is definitely one of the most Instagram-worthy drinks on our list. Our recommendation: we’re dreaming of Da Azteca — mango, piña, strawberry, blue raspberry, three jello shots, two rum shooters, and one rum shooter.
Here’s a fun fact about me: I am a huge history nerd. So much so that I have a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master’s of Arts in Museum Science.
I really enjoyed writing this piece on San Antonio’s sister cities. Head over to the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures to see San Antonio’s city sister sign that’s currently on loan to the museum.
