Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) and Pre-K 4 SA are partnering to address the need for child care options for military families. Currently JBSA is facing a child care shortage, offering only 990 slots, with 65 available through at-home care.

Cue Pre-K 4 SA, a voter-approved early childhood program with the goal to transform San Antonio’s educational + workforce landscape within a generation. Even though the two entities have been collaborating for several years, JBSA and Pre-K 4 SA entered into a formal partnership in July 2024.

So, what does this partnership entail? Here’s the break down:

  • Expanding access to high-quality care: The two entities will find new ways to connect military families to child care options, like expanding the network of Military Child Care in Your Neighborhood providers.
  • Streamlined information sharing: Ensuring families to have easy access to information on child care options on and off base.
  • Investment in child care professionals: Offering specialized training on and off base to enhance the quality of care.
  • Supporting military families: Connecting families with community organizations that provide critical services, which will include JBSA’s Workforce and Transition Alliance.
