Here in the Alamo City, we have a diverse food scene. So much so that the King of Flavortown himself, Guy Fieri, has made frequent stops in the Alamo City to try out our favorite eats + treats and feature them on his Food Network show, “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.”
Whether you’re going to lunch, brunch, or dinner, owner Lisa Avestas has dishes including Latin-Spiced Lamb Burgers, Fish Tacos, and Mushroom Quesadillas.
With no reason to change its menu since 1938, this family-owned diner is serving up dishes like the Texas-sized Chicken Fried Steak and made-fresh-daily pies.

On Oct. 1, 1979, San Antonio-born star Carol Burnett was featured on the cover of People Magazine at age 46. Burnett was born in 1933 at then-Nix Hospital and lived in the Alamo City until she was seven years old. You can still see her birth home on West Commerce Street.

AT&T is leaving its 400,000-sqft space downtown and headed for the Reserve at Westover Hills in a deal said to be brokered with CBRE. A spokesperson from the company said the move is intended to take place in the first half of 2026. (San Antonio Business Journal)
