Civic

On Thursday, San Antonio City Council voted to approve a $4 billion budget for fiscal year 2026 and passed an amendment to an ordinance regarding policy proposal process. This spending plan is a 2.2% increase over the previous year. The new budget now includes funding for additional San Antonio patrol officers. (KSAT)

Closing

Hotel Havana, a fixture of downtown along the River Walk, is closing after 15 years on Monday, Oct. 20, according to an announcement by its general manager. It’s unclear what will happen to the beloved Mediterranean Revival building after the hotel’s closure. (CultureMap San Antonio)
The city’s highest flyover ramp has caused a bit of unrest for one local afraid of heights in a viral TikTok video this week. It “feels like you’re driving towards the heavens,” said Jessica Simpson, noting the 128-ft ramp is a “thrill and a scare” in equal measure. (MySA)

A grand opening is scheduled for the Northside’s new Polo Loco on Friday, Oct. 3. The much-anticipated shopping center, first unveiled in 2024, is replacing an old 99 Cents Only location. (MySA)

Fifty locals from 23 countries took an oath of citizenship this week before US Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Chestney to become naturalized citizens. At the ceremony — which took place on Constitution Day — Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones spoke to the assembly. (Fox San Antonio)
