It’s beer o’clock somewhere. Who doesn’t love a good Oktoberfest celebration?

San Antonio’s own veteran-owned Longtab Brewing is hosting its 6th annual Oktoberfest for two weekends only: Friday, Sept. 26 through Sunday, Oct. 5.

Here you can enjoy live music from Fiesta fan favorites the TubaMeisters on Sept. 26 at 6 p.m., participate in a steinholding contest, or — of course — indulge in delicious German food and beer.

Pro tip: The steinholding contest is held each Saturday of the fest — and this year, it’s once more a qualifying competition for the U.S. Steinholding Association’s state championship tournament.

Like some children, some stories never grow old — especially with a little faith, trust, and pixie dust. Sound familiar?

“Peter Pan” flies back on stage at Winspear Opera House from Friday, Sept. 19, through Sunday, Sept. 21 with a bold new look.

This high-energy, family-friendly ballet blends classic magic with bright neons, edgy mohawks, and reimagined mischief in a charmingly colorful take on a timeless tale.

News Notes

Banana ball comes to the Alamo City for the first time this weekend as the Texas Tailgaters take on the Party Animals at Nelson Wolff Stadium. Stay alert: This baseball spinoff has its own quirky rules — and if a fan catches a foul ball, it’s an out. (KSAT)

Coming Soon

Casa Rio on the River Walk — beloved for its brightly colored umbrellas dotting the scenery — has announced an upcoming expansion right above the existing restaurant: an open-air rooftop restaurant. The Night Heron will offer a variety of cuisines and Mexican wine, Mezcal, and cocktails. (KSAT)

Development

The first phase of construction is underway for transforming an empty lot on lower Broadway into Terry Black’s BBQ and hotel project. Details regarding the hotel remain unknown, but the restaurant portion received necessary approvals from city council and the Historic and Design Review Commission last year. (San Antonio Business Journal)

Real Estate

The Coopers Row apartment complex west of the Pearl is closing in on completion. A hot commodity in town with access to the Pearl’s amenities, it’s already 27% leased. But don’t fret — the 262-unit complex is one of several similar projects coming soon to the area.

Award

The Robert L.B. Tobin Land Bridge at Phil Hardberger Park just scored a national award. The public works project was tapped for an ASLA Honor Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects. Adjudicators called it a “great case study in possibilities... balancing the needs of humans and non-humans alike.” (CultureMap San Antonio)

Opening

We all scream for ice cream. A new Coldstone Creamery is headed for San Antonio — this time in its fifth location at the Shops at Dove Creek. According to state filings, construction is slated to begin Sunday, Nov. 16 and be completed by March 17, 2026. (MySA)

On This Day

On Sept. 12, 1970, the first San Antonio McDonald’s opened at 1330 South Laredo Street, near downtown. (The first in the state of Texas was a bit ahead of the curve, opening in Austin in 1962.)

Biz

The future is now. Illinois-based International Motors is rolling out autonomous truck trials and managing them from its San Antonio hub, according to a recent press release. The fleet trials will test an autonomous on-highway tractor on the corridor of Interstate 35. (KSAT)

The Wrap

My favorite fall read is “Anne of Green Gables” (and its seven sequels). Like Anne, I am so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.

New beginnings, raspberry cordial, long monologues in the woods, and falling in love with someone who challenges you to be the best version of yourself is where it’s at — borrow the book for e-reader through the San Antonio Public Library’s Overdrive collection.

Pro tip: With all due respect to the “Anne With an E” series, the 1985 Kevin Sullivan adaptation of this book will always be the real MVP.
