News Notes

Travel

If you’re flying out of SAT Airport now through Sunday, July 6, join the crowd. Around 145,000 travelers are expected to fly in and out of San Antonio — 10,000 more people than last year. Review the airport’s tips for a smooth travel day.

Closed

Ocho at Hotel Havana closed after brunch service on Sunday, June 29. Executive chef Jesse Kuykendall posted to social media, saying in part, "[We’re] excited for what’s ahead, not just for us, but also for the beautiful renovations planned for this property.” It’s unclear what’s planned for the space. (San Antonio Express-News)

Eat

Good news for Chachos lovers. The Tex-Mex restaurant’s 24-hour drive-thru is open on the Northeast Side after a hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Swing by 8629 Perrin Beitel and Loop 410 for nachos, tacos, quesadillas, and chalupas. (San Antonio Express-News)

Drink

What’s the password? We’ll just have to wait and see. Later this month, a speakeasy called Il Segreto will make its North Side debut. While the exact location is a mystery, it’ll be along Huebner Road in Shavano Park and sport an old-world charm meets contemporary Italian sophistication feel. (San Antonio Current)

Biz

Nopalera, a Mexican-inspired beauty brand, relocated its headquarters from NYC to San Antonio. The biz specializing in cactus-based bath, body, hair care, and fragrances can be found at a few boutique retailers locally already. This list includes Revolución and The Curio at Hotel Emma. (San Antonio Business Journal)

Try This

Pass this on to your pickleball partner. A sports and entertainment venue slated for Northeast New Braunfels will finally open this fall. The Court House will span three acres behind Buc-ee’s off the I-35 corridor and feature pickleball and padel courts, lawn games, a kid’s play area, and stage. (MySA)

Post of the Day

A screenshot of an Instagram post from the San Antonio Zoo showing three giraffes in a habitat.
Spot Kicheko, the San Antonio Zoo’s new 14-month-old giraffe, with Waffles and Brayden in the Naylor Savanna habitat. His name means “laughter” in Swahili, which is perfectly fitting as he was born on April Fool’s Day. Pro tip: All three animals are now a part of the zoo’s Giraffe Feeding Experience.
