Train travel is booming. In the last fiscal year, The National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) served 32.8 million customers, and in 2024, San Antonio Station served 55,671.
The more sustainable, often scenic, and middle seat-less cousin to flying, train travel could play a part in your next vacation — here’s how to do it locally.
Meet the Texas Eagle
If you’re leaving from San Antonio Station, you may end up on a Texas Eagle:

AquaGlow | Friday, June 20-Saturday, Aug. 2 | 6-10 p.m. | Aquatica San Antonio | $30 | On select nights in June, July, and August, you can visit the park for a splash party with neon nighttime water slides and a foam party.
Local nonprofits will host a community vigil honoring the 13 people who died in last week’s flash floods this Wednesday, June 18 at 8 p.m. The event will be hosted by Eagles Flight Advocacy and Outreach + San Antonio Aware and Prepared at the latter organization’s headquarters, 5819 Northwest Loop 410. Civic
Community planning workshops for the proposed Project Marvel sports district begin next week. The two-day workshops will be held in each City Council District in June and July + involve community forums, round-table discussions, and focus groups. See the full list of workshop dates and locations.
Announced
The Tobin Center’s Annual Benefit Concert — which generates funds for the center’s Generation NEXT Education Initiative — will be headlined by Nile Rodgers and Chic. Tickets for the event on Saturday, Nov. 1 are still available. (San Antonio Current)
Development
A $3.6 million shopping center is slated to finish construction on the Far Westside this fall. The Cottonwood Pointe Retail Center is expected to span 12 acres at 5420 Wiseman Blvd. — the business lineup has not yet been announced. (My SA)
Coming Soon
The minds behind Be Kind & Rewind will open a “spooky tiki bar” called Paradise Unknown in the spring. The new spot will have an island theme, offer tropical drinks, and be located on Losoya Street Downtown. (San Antonio Current)
