In his farewell, editor Nicholas reflects on his two years at SATXtoday. | Photo by SATXtoday
Well, y’all — today marks the last newsletter you’ll receive with my face at the bottom. What a joy it has been writing for you these past two years, serving as your personal tour guide while at SATXtoday.
During my time, I was able to discover even more of San Antonio’s vibrant culture and — if it’s possible — fall even more in love with my hometown.
Meeting readers like Mitzi M., Amanda J., Ava A., Bryan W., Amber T., and countless others during our Fiesta Medal giveaways was the most rewarding experience I had while at SATXtoday.
Hearing stories about your favorite parts of the daily newsletter and how we get you out of the house are a couple of compliments that will live with me forever. My goal at SATXtoday was to uplift local businesses, communities, and organizations that are doing amazing work in our city — and your words confirmed my mission.

Chef Jennifer Dobbertin of Best Quality Daughter gives us a tour of her kitchen and the gadgets she swears by. | Photo by Josh Huskin
If you’ve ever been to the award-winning Asian fusion restaurant Best Quality Daughter, you might have thought to yourself, “How can I cook like this?”
We spoke to Jennifer Hwa Dobbertin, BQD’s owner and chef. She gave us a peek into her kitchen, where we discovered the secret to easy dinners, her favorite spots to pick up the best ingredients, and a tease at her newest concept.
3 ingredients currently in Jennifer Dobbertin’s kitchen
Fish sauce — Dobbertin adds this sauce to almost every meal and it is “a great item to add to round out dishes.”
Tony Chachere’s — “Old Bay and Tony C’s are on everything I do. Add some chili flakes and any meal is delicious in my opinion.”
Oyster sauce — In addition to standard fish sauce, Dobbertin says that “oyster sauce — combined with coconut cream, curry paste, choice of broth, and veggies — makes an easy (and delicious) veggie stir fry.”
