News Notes

Civic

The City of San Antonio’s Development Services Department have proposed a pilot program to install 10 digital displays along the facade of downtown buildings in an effort to create a “urban entertainment districts.” Think: West Hollywood’s Design District. City Council is set to vote on the proposal later this month. (SA Business Journal)

State

H-E-B’s Our Texas, Our Future launched a new state-wide cleanup campaign, Trash Free Gulf. Texas cities are hosting waterway litter clean-up events throughout May. San Antonio’s event is taking place on Saturday, May 17 at Espada Park from 8 to 11 a.m. Sign up here.

Plan Ahead

The Latino Bookstore at Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center is hosting two author signing events this month — Jennifer R. Nájera on Thursday, April 24 + Norma E. Cantú on Friday, April 25. Both events are free and are happening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Chicano artist and San Antonio painter Joe Lopez is unveiling his latest five-panel mural installation near Ladino inside the Pearl on Thursday, April 10 at 10 a.m. “Agua y Comunidad” commemorates Pearl’s history and how water connects the city.

TAMUSA unveiled its 2025 Fiesta medal. Check it out, and grab one at its Festival De Cascarones event on Saturday, May 4.
