Public works is one of those things you know about, but would have a hard time explaining in detail — just us? Okay. Well, if there are any citizens out there curious about how Public Works works in Bexar County, we’re here to help — and so are they.
The Public Works Department performs daily tasks that support the infrastructural maintenance, repairs, and improvement of 1,600 center line miles.
What does that look like?
Road Maintenance and Repair | Think: filling in potholes, smaller paving jobs, curb and gutter maintenance, sidewalk repairs, and more.
Drainage Maintenance | Think: clearing of pipes, reinforcing concrete in pipes, installation of drainage pipes, and more.
Traffic Control and Traffic Safety | Think: installing stop signs, speed humps, road painting, and other traffic operations.

Semmes Branch Library officially reopened yesterday after undergoing renovations. The building’s exterior got a thorough cleaning and a fresh coat of paint, and the restrooms received updates as well. The patio is currently undergoing improvements and will remain closed.

The City of San Antonio is hosting a Mayor and Council Candidate Application Day tomorrow at City Hall at 8 a.m. in anticipation of the May 3 General Election. Applications are due by Friday, Feb. 14. Want to know what qualifies to run for mayor? Check out our breakdown.
